#Democrats voted Friday to remove #Iowa as the first state on the presidential nominating calendar & replace it w/ #SouthCarolina starting in 2024, a dramatic shakeup championed by President Joe #Biden to better reflect the party’s deeply diverse electorate.
The committee approved moving South Carolina’s #primary to Feb. 3 & having #Nevada & #NewHampshire vote 3 days later. #Georgia would go the following week & #Michigan 2 weeks after that.

New Hampshire and Iowa have had the first two spots for way too long. I would like to see them continue to rotate which states come first in further elections.
It is also good to see Michigan being one of the first states in the Presidential primary. In the 2020 primary Michigan was like the 20th state to vote, coming a̲f̲t̲e̲r̲ Super Tuesday.
@DavidAno
I agree that it should rotate, changing every 4 years. And also that the importance of which state(s) primary first. No one state or small group of states, should have so much pact on the choices available to citizens in other states.
@DavidAno I'm in NH and there's a lot of pride (and attention and $) in having the first in the nation primary. And it's neat to be at a county fair or eating at a diner when a Presidential hopeful is there.
This topic comes around every year. Are we going to keep changing our primary date to always be first in line? At some point that stops being logical.
@DavidAno I live in NH. Our first in the nation presidential primary status is guaranteed by our NH state constitution. But we no longer have our famous/infamous Sec. of State Bill Gardner (1976 x 2022) who fiercely guarded this status for so many years. We will have to see where the chips fall. #nhpolitics #newhampshire
State law *obliges* the NH SecState to move the primary at least a week before any equivalent contest.
Gardner did it noisily, but anyone in office *has* to.
@DavidAno NH state law says otherwise but as a NH resident and voter I think I’m ok with that plan.
