We had a truly terrifying drive home tonight. Black ice out of nowhere then wrecks all around us; drove <15mph most of the rest of the way home feeling grateful for the clusters of first responders, and worry for those in wrecked vehicles, marking our milestones.
Designing a transportation system around cars was a bad idea.
@sstrudeau :( glad you made it home safely. Driving is the worst.
@csalzman thanks. I’ve never seen quite so many bad wrecks on one drive.
Also I never understand why the main roads get so bad on a day like today. I knew it was going to be a shitshow hours ago looking at the weather. Why doesn't the road commission salt preemptively more often?
I was up at Mt. Bohemia skiing last year and we got 8" of snow the day we were leaving. Parked on a hill with a fairly steep grade, dead end at the bottom. Next door cabin was occupied by a buckeye in an F250 who liked to yell "O-H" at me.
I look out the cabin window, see him trying to back out spinning all 4 wheels like the poisonous nut that he is. Worried he's gonna smash my car, I go out and ask him if he wants me to move.
He's laughs and is all like "good luck man, no chance you're getting out". I said I'd at least move a little bit out of the way. I get in my car (subaru) turn around, and with a little bit of rocking drive right the fuck past him and park where it's plowed already. Then I just waved at him and went skiing. :smug:
He ended up having to get the resort guy to come with _his_ pickup truck and a chain to pull him out.
I <3 subarus and snow tires.
