“The commissioners argue that even with this step, data reflects the issues surrounding bike accidents [sic] are more tied to those 13 years and older, not young children, and that this move won't have a major impact as far as safety on the roads.” cbs8.com/article/news/local/ca

Honda unveils new WN7 electric motorcycle, but with a huge dealbreaker

"But with a price of £12,999 (approximately US $17,700) for what appears to be a commuter-level electric motorcycle, this thing might be dead on arrival."

"many models from smaller manufacturers offering comparable (or even better) range and speed for half the price."

Electrek · Honda unveils new WN7 electric motorcycle, but with a huge dealbreakerBy Micah Toll

Anyone have experience building an #ebike ?

I have a one speed huffy cruiser/city bike I want to convert. I don't know much about bikes but have electronics/soldering skill.

It would need to be a front wheel motor because the back has the brake. It's one of those back pedal brakes.

I don't want anything too crazy, maybe 15-20 MPH max at around a 10 mile range. I'm looking at conversion kits but they usually don't come with a battery. I'm guessing I'll need to make my own.

And I'm going DIY due to costs. I'm hoping to keep it under $300, but with the US tariffs, not sure if that's possible.

But what isn't an e-bike, really. A powered unicycle is an e-bike. An electric tractor is an e-bike. A roomba is an e-bike (for your cat).

I guess what I'm saying is the "electronic bicycle" idea space is ripe for an alignment chart along the lines of Purist/Neutral/Radical Sandwich Ideology.

My step-son doesn't drive. We live in a suburban subdivision. The closest commercial establishment is 5 miles away. The boy's life was miserable; like a prisoner in solitary confinement. But last month we bought a couple e-bikes and e-scooters. And now my stepson is like a #FREEBIRD!--biking or scooting daily to Dutch Bros for a coffee or to the taco trucks for lunch. It's great to watch. It's very much like how we old farts all lived during the 70s.

I'm a #librarian currently in #Ohio. I have 2 mini #dachshunds and 2 #cats. I enjoy all sorts of music.

I've been on Mastodon since October 2022, and this is my 6th server and is an alt account as Beige Party is down. Don’t know the last time I archived stuff, so If I didn’t send a friend request, my apologies.

I enjoy learning about #history and #archeology, particularly the #neolithic.
I'm also interested in #UrbanPlanning. I have an #ebike.

@cetan None yet.

Other thoughts: I'm used to a semi-aggressive stance (forward leaning) but even with the handlebars tilted up/back I would consider swapping handlebars for a /just slightly/ more upright ride.

I swapped the hand grips immediately.

The rack is MIK compatible, though Aventon will not admit it.

I have 3 Erik's Bikes within 10 miles of my house so got it through them.

I'd definitely suggest riding one at a shop if you can.

Thinking about getting an #ebike for the commute when I start my new job - save the planet, get a bit of a workout, etc. New employer does Cycle 2 work scheme so I'll get about 40% off.

Was looking at a mountain bike as hoping to do some of the trip off-road (and I want to look like one of the cool kids). It's about a 9-10 mile trip.

What do #biketooter peeps think of the Carerra ebikes from Halfords? Are they ok for a starter? Or a bad idea?

I found that I was usually in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear unless I was going downhill. And since I can't go lower than 1st gear going uphill PAS 1 gives just enough extra push to still make it hard work but not painfully slow. (The "painfully" part also applies to my knee.)

Today's ebike ride was 8.25 miles along one of my normal routes but I tried to avoid pedal assist as much as I could. In a 45 minute ride I probably used it for less than 5 minutes just to deal with a few hills along the way. I really want to get used to riding without assist for more of a "workout" on it, but also have the backup of assist for the hills.
