snow in the forecast

Guess I will *not* be doing my traditional "take off the snow tires" Easter routine today

Today's internet rabbit hole:

Russian soldiers mishandling radioactive materials in Ukraine -> Radioactive accidents wiki -> record scratch πŸ‘€

Ran outside and it was actually a P-51 Mustang flying over from Oshkosh.

I spent way too much time on a stupid project today

Me: oh the car rental place is only a mile from the dealership, maybe I can walk there - just one intersection to cross how bad could it be?

The Intersection: πŸš™ πŸ’€ ⚰️

covid school guidance

The CDC has revised school reopening guidelines.

πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ schools make cohorts with 6 foot distance between cohorts
πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ 3 feet distance between masked students
πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ No mention at all of hybrid or remote instruction in K-5
πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ hybrid for 6-12 only in cases where cohorting not possible
πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ“ No indoor sports for many schools

Wash Co covid numbers

Washtenaw County just released numbers of cases/million broken down by non-UMich affiliated individuals. I charted them up against the total numbers of cases/M in Washtenaw County

These numbers are a bit old unfortunately but gives a good picture of where we are.

Again, I stress Umich is testing a TON so these numbers probably do NOT reflect actual COVID infection concentrations

very positive vaccine slide

My world is full of questionable approvals of cancer drugs. Slides touting efficacy vs standard of care often have a hair's breadth between the curves.

This slide showing efficacy of the Moderna vaccine is just mindblown.gif

The curve starts to diverge after 14 days!

I did that NYT "where are you in line for the COVID vaccine" and as expected...

covid coming wave

If you and your loved ones are doing everything you can already, maybe stop reading now.

Hospitals across the US are getting inundated. In the previous surge we could send volunteer healthcare workers to the hot spots.

That can't happen when the whole country looks like this.

Dangerous days ahead, folks. Avoid any risky activities if you can. No in-person unmasked indoor gatherings of any kind.

Be good to yourselves

Did a quick scale mockup of the new Hummer EV just to see exactly how big it is.

It's... too big.

eBike locally for sale

Jim at Human Electric Hybrids is clearing out some bikes. The most interesting is this Urban Arrow Shorty which is a really unique eBike. Its a great deal for someone who just needs cargo and not kid hauling capacity.

I passed 1000 miles in biking today, most of them done in 6-7 mile commuting trips.

That's double my goal for the year, which is very satisfying to hit.

cool van vibes

While we are looking at a new minivan, I've been wondering a few things.

1) Why aren't airbrushed vans a thing anymore?
2) Why were they a thing to begin with?
3) Why is there such significant overlap with SFF and airbrushed vans?

Feeling sad that I cannot reasonably plan our next vacation, while at the same time feeling very thankful we got to go to Norway last year.

Had to say goodbye to Maeby, who was a big part of our family for the past 13 years. Gonna miss her a lot.

Was talking with some other parents about local elections. Most didn't know what ward we are in (2!)

In order to know what ward you're in, you have to be registered to vote and then check your registration.

or, as a birdsite user mentioned, you can refer to this unlabeled low res map the city provides.

Why not a simple address lookup website? Go to the site, enter your home address, and it gives you your ward. Bonus if it tells you the next election and candidates running.
