Hulu's captions are little tiny and hard to read. There are settings where you can adjust the size. The largest size is still very small. Also, adjusting the size does not adjust the line spacing, so at the largest text size, the text is overlapping each other. Also, the semi-transparent background doesn't grow to accommodate the larger text, so the text overflows its background.

@twynn

Thanks! I just tried to do that. When I hit submit, it took me to the top of the page and opened up a pop-up that said "Need Help with an Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) complaint?"

All the stuff remained filled out on my form.

It looks a lot like it didn't submit. But my firefox network console says it did POST the form, and it did get a 200 OK response.

So maybe they got it and maybe they didn't.

@MegaMichelle Last time I submitted a complaint, got an email with a confirmation. If you didn't get that, I'd either call or email the Disability Rights Office.

@twynn

Ooof. I did not get an email. This is a pain in the neck!

@MegaMichelle Yeah, it's very particular about the format of how you enter data. If it tells you you have to enter it in a certain way, any deviation from it will give you an error (in blue if memory serves) next to the form field's label.

@twynn

I did it again and got "Your request was successfully submitted". I don't know what I did wrong last time.

Thanks!

@MegaMichelle No problem. If you're totally blind or a screen reader user, the form has even more barriers, and add in AudioEye overlay? Well at that point you could be forgiven for thinking they're actively hostile. Yes, I've a problem with accessibility overlays. How could you tell?

@twynn

Holy gravy, a human being wrote back to me right away and asked for screenshots and some other info that showed that a human had actually read my email and synthesizing a response with their brain! I sent them a screenshot and answered their questions and then like an hour later, I got an email saying they'd contacted Hulu and Hulu had 30 days to respond!

I didn't know this was a thing!

@twynn

I might go back and complain about how, on Paramount Plus, any time the captions switch to italics, it turns it into a linebreak and reverse line-feed.

So instead of "Keep the crew of the Stargazer safe", it'll be like

line 1: Safe
line 2: Stargazer
line 3: Keep the crew of the

I didn't know the FCC cared about what went down on the internet!

@MegaMichelle The FCC has super limited jurisdiction over CC on IP, mainly content that has aired on US TV with CC, but when I made a complaint about audio description which has even weaker rules, they do their best with the limitations given by Congressional mandate.

@MegaMichelle Also I'm not super clear about their display requirements but do know streaming is part of it though unknown to what extent.

@twynn

Well, even if the FCC doesn't strictly have jurisdiction, I'll probably get further going through the FCC than going through Hulu customer support, if such a thing even exists.

I'm just glad the FCC is willing to forward complaints!

@MegaMichelle If you search for it, I know Hulu has a contact for CC. Article is I'm having trouble with closed captions/subtitles. There's an email there. Paramount has a similar page.
